Daniel Maeda, biotechnologist and academician at the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

He is a biotechnologist and academician at the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of the University of Dar es Salaam. His background is in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Sciences, Molecular Virology, and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.

His current research is in molecular virology, cancer biology and bioprocessing biotechnology in the food industry. He has been an opinion leader on biotechnology matters in Tanzania, ranging from GMOs in agriculture to innovations in vaccine technology and other bio-therapeutics. He’s currently the coordinator for innovation and entrepreneurship at the College of Natural and Applied Sciences of the University of Dar es Salaam and a member of the Gene Editing Technologies Initiative (GETI) of the Network of African Science Academic (NASAC).

He’s Also a member of the National Biosafety Committee (NBC) of the United Republic of Tanzania, and a member of the Technical Advisory Committee on Medical Devices and Diagnostics of the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA). He has previously been a member of the National Biotechnology Advisory Committee (NBAC) of the Tanznaia Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH).
